A range of companies are still confused about the European Union’s RoHS requirements and are not in compliance with them, technology and design solutions news outlet Electric Design reports.

Chicago-based supplier Newark InOne discovered that 30 per cent of engineers and component buyers it surveyed do not think that the RoHS directive will have any impact on their company in the next year. Another recent survey found that 83 per cent of manufacturers were at high to severe risk of not being able to track, document or report on RoHS compliance. A further 60 per cent of respondents to the survey said that they were unable to track all parts and materials in their products.

These are worrying numbers as the RoHS Directive, which impose the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, has already entered into force last 1st July 2006.
